OK OK I have not been steady at posting on my blog. But here is a post, so be surprised if you want, but sit back, relax and enjoy the read.
This past Saturday we began coffee/cocoa giveaway in Willimantic. It was Nate, Stephanie and me, in the bone chilling air, giving away coffee to passers-by. Let me first say this, it was FREEZING cold; and windy.
The day started at 6:15 AM for me. Roll out of bed, shower, teeth, dress, GO!! I started my car. It read 19 degrees on the thermometer and the wind was blowing. I drove up 32 to 44 then onto 195. I was about .7 of a mile from church and the road was closed due to an accident. Prayer for the people involved right then and there.
I took a detour around as I was going to come in on 195 from the other way. Just as I was about to get on 195, Nate called me to tell me the road was closed. Figuring he was coming from the same area as me (he attends ECSU which is just down the road from my house) I told him I had detoured around it and was coming in from the other direction. He told me he just came from that direction and that road was closed also. What should we do? I told him to let me get to the roadblock and ask the guy if we could get through. I start thinking to myself that the enemy does NOT want the coffee giveaway to happen and I was about ready to turn around and go home but NO, the enemy wont win.
So here I come up to the second road block. The guy is waving me to the right. No I need to go straight as that is where the church is, so I stop and make the "BOLD" ask. I tell him I need to get to St. Pauls right there, I could see the driveway. He says OK go ahead, YAY!!! Called Nate and let him to know tell the guy where he is going and they will let him through.
So I get to church and started making coffee and in comes Nate. We make the coffee and cocoa go to ECSU and get Stephanie and head out to Main Street, where we held the coffee giveaway last winter.
By now its like 8:10am and we are setting up. Did I mention its freezing cold? Stop whining Jason. Keeping in my mind, LOVE LIKE JESUS!!!!!
So we get all set up and ready to go. We make conversation among ourselves. We have people that are walking in this bitter cold, windy day. People on bicycles passing by, some too cold to want to stop for a moment and get a free warm beverage. But some do stop, whether walking or riding.
Did I mention its freezing cold? Stop whining Jason, oh and you too Nate. Stephanies being quiet. . . They go to the car to warm up a couple of times.
We handed out about 12 cups of cocoa. I was surprised that we didnt give away one cup of coffee, except to me, LOL!!! Its a good thing we made the cocoa. Man it was chocolatey, said Nate. Thanks Nate.
So this one guy comes up to us and hes riding a bicycle. I stop him and ask if he wants free coffee or cocoa (I was pushing the coffee, Nate was pushing the chocolatey cocoa). He asks how much, I say FREE!!! He says "Sure, Ill have a hot chocolate". I turn around and Stephanie pours it and as I am about to hand this guy the cup, he starts rifling through his bag and we are all standing there thinking hes looking for money to give us, and all of a sudden he hands me a paper towel with a cooked dough looking thing wrapped in the towel, then he hands one to Nate and then one to Stephanie. We take a bite and its meat inside with spices, piping hot. I ask him what they are, he tells us empinadas. He made about 20 of them and said if we were going to give him hot chocolate then he was going to give us empinadas. Man were they delicious.

We were being the hands of Jesus, and so was this guy, thats totally awesome. None of us three ever expected anything like that to happen. When we bless others its true, God does bless us. He uses us all to bring love to one another, our brothers and sisters. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
So with that, although it was freezing cold (did I mention that), it was worth it. It was worth loving others, caring, sharing and just being out there letting people know they are loved. Many people that stop ask us why we do this. Our standard answer is "We do this just for you." and that is 100 percent true.
We dont do it to get empinadas.
We dont do it to get into heaven.
We dont do it to boast.
We do this because we are loved by God and we want others to feel that same love.
Love with no catch, no strings attached, no expectations.
Pure love.
Simple love.
God love unconditional.
